There is no official word on the Blu Ray right now but the following information is being reported by digitalbits.com and seems to be legit.
Retail sources are telling us to expect Lionsgate to release The Hunger Games on Blu-ray and DVD in the U.S. on 8/18. Expect an official announcement soon. There will be multiple SKUs and editions, including discs only, discs plus bonus swag and Target and Walmart retail exclusive versions as well. Expect several retailers to hold "Twilight like midnight release party" events around the country. Sounds like they're going to make a pretty big deal out of this one.
From the upcoming issue of TVGuide:
Christopher Meloni’s face is splattered with blood. He’s just shot his first staking scene for HBO’s megahit True Blood — and he’s seriously amped up.
“When that blood hit me in the face, I went, ‘This looks awesome!’” Meloni says gleefully. It’s nearly 11pm and it took two hours to set up the shot — called a “goo drop.” A bucket of stage blood (with some latex blobs mixed in for guts) is suspended from a scaffold. Just below it hangs an empty suit of clothes matching what the actor playing the doomed vamp is wearing. As the stake goes in, the bucket empties through the garments, and the bloodsucker is no more. There’s only one chance to get it right. And Meloni nailed it.
Cannes got to see footage of Django Unchained. Here is how it was described as reported by Guardian.
Django Unchained is about something on which Hollywood is traditionally very reticent: slavery. To the music of Johnny Cash and James Brown, a weird drama of violent revenge in the Old South unfolds. Christoph Waltz is a bizarre travelling dentist, whose profession is, in fact, a cover for his activities as bounty hunter, gunfighter and assassin.
With maximum and freaky violence, he frees a slave called Django, played by Jamie Foxx, and they track down some brothers with whom he has business.
Django wears an electric blue suit and a stylishly raked hat, and they encounter a very haughty slave owner, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. We don't get to see what Samuel L Jackson actually does in the movie, other than checking him in the credits.
The footage looks good – of course it would – but it's impossible to tell what the movie is going to be like. It could be brilliant, like Kill Bill, or underwhelming like Inglourious Basterds. Well, the chains come off at Christmas and we'll see then.
A “bizarre traveling dentist”, whose actually a bounty hunter? Hmm. If anyone can pull that off it’s Tarantino - Here’s to hoping it will be more like Kill Bill.
